Matt Walker has been appointed as the new head football coach at Drake University, marking a significant transition in his career. Announced by Athletics Director Brian Hardin on February 22, this appointment brings Walker from a successful tenure at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level.

Walker is a well-respected figure in college football. He led UWRF to remarkable achievements, including:

  • Winning the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2025.
  • Securing the program’s first national playoff berth since 1996.
  • Setting a program record with 14 wins.
  • Winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) outright for the first time since 1985.

Throughout his career, Walker accumulated an impressive overall record of 44-13 since 2021. He was honored multiple times, including being named the D3football.com Coach of the Year and WIAC Coach of the Year, both in 2025 and 2021. Under his leadership, UWRF consistently ranked among national offensive leaders, averaging 42.4 points per game over the last five seasons.
