Winter Storm Cleanup Efforts Underway

In a statement released by the Halifax Regional Municipality, local crews are prioritizing the clearing of main roads and sidewalks. Residents have been advised to avoid all non-essential travel to facilitate efficient cleanup operations. This caution ensures the safety of both drivers and responders.

On Tuesday, snow routes for Halifax Transit buses will remain in effect, and curbside solid waste collection initially scheduled for today has been postponed until Saturday, February 28.

Flight Cancellations and Delays

Halifax Stanfield International Airport is experiencing flight disruptions due to the storm. Although operations continue, many flights have been canceled. Passengers should check their flight status before heading to the airport to avoid inconvenience.

In addition to school closures, several universities in the region are also delaying their openings. The updated schedules are as follows:

  • Saint Mary’s University – Opening at 10 a.m.
  • Mount Saint Vincent University – Opening at 10 a.m.
  • Dalhousie University’s Halifax and Truro campuses – Opening at 10 a.m.
  • St. Francis Xavier University – Opening at 11 a.m.
  • Acadia University – Opening at 12 p.m.

Storm Forecast and Impact

The winter storm is projected to deposit between 15 to 25 centimeters of snow across Nova Scotia, with some southwestern areas likely to see totals exceeding 40 centimeters. Wind gusts are expected to range from 60 to 80 km/h, reaching up to 90 km/h in exposed locations. These strong winds are contributing to poor visibility due to blowing and drifting snow.
