Rangers Acquire Tye Kartye from Kraken via Waivers

A young forward has joined the New York Rangers. The team recently claimed Tye Kartye off waivers from the Seattle Kraken.

Tye Kartye, a 24-year-old winger, was one of two players placed on waivers last Thursday. Speculation surrounded his future, with some expecting him to drop to the American Hockey League (AHL). However, others anticipated his selection just before the trade deadline.

Kartye’s Performance with the Kraken

This season, Kartye has been inconsistent in Seattle’s lineup. He played in 40 out of 57 games. During this time, he recorded three goals and five assists, totaling eight points. His notable performance included a goal against the Anaheim Ducks on February 3.

Career Background

Before joining the Kraken, Kartye played junior hockey with the Soo Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League. Although he spent most of his rookie season with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, he participated in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs with Seattle, contributing five points in ten games.

Currently, Kartye is in the first year of a two-year contract signed in July. The deal has a cap hit of $1.25 million through the end of the 2026-27 season.
