Wolverhampton Roads Close Overnight for Major Route Improvements Next Week
Wolverhampton is set to see significant road closures next week as part of a major route improvement project. The closures will begin on Tuesday, March 3, and will last for seven nights, primarily affecting Penn Road.
Details of the Road Closures
During the closure period, Penn Road will be subject to hydroblasting between Coalway Road and Pennhouse Avenue. This method aims to enhance the road surface to prevent water penetration, thus reducing the likelihood of potholes.
Additional Roads Impacted
Several other roads will also face restrictions, including:
- Witton Road
- Coalway Road
- Alexandra Road
- Mount Road
- Woodfield Avenue
- Bromley Place
- Wynn Road
- Muchall Road
- Osborne Road
- Hartwood Crescent
Access to properties along these streets will be maintained, so residents should not experience complete disruption.
Traffic Diversions and Working Hours
Traffic will be diverted through Wombourne and Sedgley during the working hours, which are from 7 PM to 5 AM each night. This nighttime schedule aims to minimize the impact on daily commuters.
Project Duration and Benefits
The closure order will remain in effect for 18 months, although the hydroblasting work on Penn Road is anticipated to conclude by March 10. A spokesperson for the council emphasized the importance of this maintenance, stating that retexturing through hydroblasting helps enhance skid resistance and prolongs the life of the roads.
By addressing water ingress issues, this project aims to maintain safe conditions for all road users in Wolverhampton.
