Joel Embiid to Miss Next Three Sixers Games

Joel Embiid to Miss Next Three Sixers Games

Joel Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers’ star center, will miss the next three games due to a right oblique strain. This injury occurred earlier this week during a game against the Miami Heat, where he was inadvertently hit in the ribs.

Injury Details and Impact

During the game against Miami, Embiid executed a pump fake that caused Kel’el Ware to jump and collide with him. Although Embiid finished the game, he exhibited signs of discomfort by favoring his midsection.

His performance deteriorated as he went from a promising start, shooting 4-of-7, to finishing the game at 4-of-13, including two turnovers. Following this incident, he did not participate in the 76ers’ recent practice sessions.

A spokesperson for the team confirmed that Embiid had experienced increased soreness and subsequently underwent an MRI. The results revealed the oblique strain, leading to his absence in games against the Boston Celtics and two additional matchups.

Challenges Ahead for the Sixers

This injury places the 76ers in a difficult situation as they aim to secure their position in the Eastern Conference playoff race. They currently hold the sixth seed but faced struggles during Embiid’s previous absence, with a record of 1-4 over their last five games. Notably, three losses were significant defeats.

Additionally, basketball fans will miss the anticipated rematch between Embiid and rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama when the San Antonio Spurs visit Philadelphia next week.

Upcoming Match Against the Boston Celtics

Despite the absence of Embiid, the 76ers will not face the Boston Celtics at full strength either. Jayson Tatum, who has been sidelined since May due to an Achilles tendon injury, will also miss this matchup. His return has been closely monitored, but he will not make his season debut just yet.

As the 76ers grapple with these injuries, they hope to stabilize their performance and maintain their playoff positioning without Embiid’s presence on the court.
