Amanda Owen Admits Challenges in Latest Farm Update
Amanda Owen, the Yorkshire Shepherdess, is navigating the complexities of farmhouse renovations and personal loss. In a recent episode of “Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids,” she opened up about the pressures accompanying her decisions regarding the renovation of their farmhouse, Anty John’s.
Amanda Owen’s Renovation Challenges
During the episode, Amanda shared her uncertainty about the renovation process. This project involves a significant divide between the listed main house and the non-listed barn section. She explained, “The house end is listed. The barn end is not listed.” The renovation presents two different approaches: the main house requires careful plastering, while the barn can be done more economically with plasterboard.
Interior Design Decisions
As the renovation progresses, Amanda revealed her focus has shifted to the interiors. She recently met with a lighting consultant, Simon, to discuss design possibilities. However, the initial concepts did not appeal to her. She found the first option “too modern” and described the second as making her feel “sea sick.”
- First lighting proposal: Too modern
- Second lighting proposal: Made her feel sea sick
- Current stage involves styling the interiors
Amanda expressed the burden of decision-making, stating, “There’s a bit more sort of onus and pressure on me to kind of make decisions, and that’s really hard.” She is leaning on professionals for suggestions while often declining their ideas.
Personal Loss
Amidst the renovation stress, Amanda and Clive faced a heartbreaking moment with the passing of their beloved dog, Chalky. Amanda struggled with her emotions as they gathered for a final farewell, with their children reciting a heartfelt poem in tribute. She recalled the moment when their daughters recognized Chalky’s passing, revealing their profound sadness.
Amanda reflected, “Just to see her laid there, as peaceful as anything and still warm, it pulled at your heartstrings.” Clive added, “Oh, it’s good old Chalkie. She’s gone, but not forgotten.” Together, they cherish the memories of their loyal companion.
Amanda Owen’s journey in renovating their farmhouse continues to be a mixture of professional challenges and personal heartache, revealing the vulnerability behind the life of a shepherdess.
