Minister Caroline Proulx to Exit Politics After Challenging Year

Minister Caroline Proulx has announced her decision to exit politics after a challenging year. The current Minister of Housing in Quebec confirmed she will not seek reelection in the upcoming general elections set for October 2026. This decision follows two terms in office and a difficult personal year.

Personal Challenges and Professional Reflections

Proulx shared her decision through a social media post on platform X, explaining that it was a deeply personal choice. The past year has been turbulent for her, especially following the tragic loss of her mother. This event compelled her to take a break from political duties in October last year, shortly after she was appointed as Minister for Seniors.

Reflecting on her brief tenure in the Seniors Ministry and her role as Associate Minister of Health, Proulx noted that personal struggles made it hard to balance family responsibilities with political obligations. She emphasized the importance of candidly addressing such challenges, stating, “This period, where I had to temporarily step away from public life, has guided my thinking towards the decision I make today.”

Future Endeavors

As she approaches her sixties, Proulx plans to focus her energy on new projects outside of politics. She has made significant contributions to Quebec’s political landscape but feels it is time to move on.

Political Landscape Changes

In addition to Proulx, another notable figure in Quebec’s political scene, Vincent Marissal, the independent Member of the National Assembly for Rosemont, has also declared his exit from politics. Marissal, who left Quebec Solidaire last autumn due to interactions with the Parti Québécois, emphasized that he lacks the necessary energy to continue in the political arena.
