Jasmine Aikey Prepares for NWSL Debut After Acclaimed Stanford Career

Jasmine Aikey is set to make her professional debut for Denver Summit FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) this Saturday. This match marks the opening game for both Aikey and the newly established club. They will face Bay FC at PayPal Park, located in San Jose, California.

Acclaimed Career at Stanford

Aikey is a former midfielder at Stanford University, where she had a standout senior season. Earlier this year, she received the prestigious Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, known as the Heisman Trophy of college soccer. She led the nation with 53 points, scored 21 goals, and tied for second with seven game-winning goals.

A Unique Achievement

  • Aikey is the first Black female athlete to win both the Hermann Trophy and the Division I Academic All-America Team Member of the Year Award in the same season.
  • She graduated with a remarkable 3.97 GPA and was named the ACC Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year in January.

Her excellence on the field caught the attention of Stanford’s head coach, Paul Ratcliffe, who recognized her potential at a young age. He noted her impressive combination of physical and technical attributes.

Inspiration from Family

Aikey attributes much of her success to her parents, Merline Saintil and Greg Aikey. Saintil, a Silicon Valley executive and board member, has been a significant source of inspiration for her. Having emigrated from Haiti, she emphasized the importance of education and hard work.

Impact on Young Athletes

As Aikey prepares for her debut, she aims to inspire other young women. “I hope to set a good example,” she said, encouraging them to have confidence and pursue their dreams.

With excitement in the air, Aikey and Denver Summit FC are ready to make their mark in the NWSL, bringing enthusiasm to soccer fans across the nation.
