Meet Carson Towt: New Colts TE and Ex-Notre Dame CBB Star

The Indianapolis Colts have made a noteworthy addition to their roster by signing tight end Carson Towt, a former college basketball player. This recent move is part of the team’s strategy to enhance their tight end position ahead of the 2026 season.

Carson Towt: A Unique Journey

Carson Towt, who was signed as an undrafted free agent, previously played basketball at Notre Dame. Despite not playing football at any level before this signing, the Colts are optimistic about his potential impact on the team.

Towt’s basketball background is impressive. He spent the majority of his college career at Northern Arizona, where he excelled on the court. During the 2024-2025 season, he averaged an impressive 12.4 rebounds per game and set a Big Sky Conference record with 423 rebounds overall.

Collegiate Performance

  • University: Notre Dame
  • 2025-26 Season Stats: 5.9 points and 9.0 rebounds per game
  • Previous College: Northern Arizona
  • Rebounds Record: 423 total rebounds in the Big Sky Conference

Colts’ Tight End Strategy

The Colts are hoping that Towt’s story will mirror that of veteran tight end Mo Alie-Cox. Alie-Cox transitioned from basketball at VCU to professional football, joining the Colts in 2017. With his re-signing on Monday, he is now the second-longest-tenured member of the Indianapolis roster.

Additionally, the Colts have already found success at the tight end position with Tyler Warren, their first-round pick in 2025. Warren was named to the Pro Bowl during his rookie year, recording 76 receptions for 817 yards and four touchdowns.

Aiming for Playoff Contention

The signing of Carson Towt provides quarterback Daniel Jones with another option in the passing game. The Colts aim to rebound and compete for playoff spots in the upcoming 2026 season.
