Alex Bowman Skips Next Three NASCAR Races for Vertigo Recovery

Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, is set to miss the next three NASCAR Cup Series races due to ongoing recovery from vertigo. This decision comes after he experienced symptoms on March 1 during the race at the Circuit of The Americas, where he left the race at lap 71. The affected races include Darlington Raceway on March 22, Martinsville Speedway on March 29, and Bristol Motor Speedway on April 12.

Medical Guidance and Team Support

Bowman, 32, has been unable to participate in recent events, including races at Phoenix Raceway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this month. According to Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports, the team is closely following medical advice to ensure Bowman’s complete recovery. Andrews expressed confidence in Bowman’s return once cleared medically, emphasizing team support:

  • “Alex continues to experience symptoms, so we are following the guidance of the medical team.
  • We see how hard he’s working to get back behind the wheel.”

Justin Allgaier to Step In

During Bowman’s absence, Justin Allgaier will take over driving duties for the No. 48 Chevrolet. Allgaier, who is 39 years old and competes full-time for JR Motorsports, substituted for Bowman at Las Vegas, starting in 22nd place and finishing 25th. He brings considerable experience, boasting NASCAR O’Reilly Series victories at the upcoming tracks:

  • Three at Darlington
  • One at Martinsville
  • Two at Bristol

Andrews praised Allgaier’s professionalism and competence in the role, showcasing the team’s trust in his abilities. The collective support from both Hendrick Motorsports and JR Motorsports highlights the collaborative spirit within NASCAR, especially during challenging times for their drivers.
