NBC Issues Apology for Mistaken Imagery in Tiger Woods Crash Coverage
Tiger Woods recently faced a serious incident involving a car crash, which drew significant media attention. Unfortunately, during the NBC Sports coverage of the Houston Open, the network mistakenly aired images from a previous car crash instead of the recent one.
NBC Issues Apology for Mistaken Imagery in Tiger Woods Crash Coverage
The error occurred on Saturday during a studio show before the third-round action of the Texas Children’s Houston Open. While discussing Woods’ latest incident following his arrest for DUI, NBC displayed visuals from his 2021 crash in Southern California.
Correction from NBC Sports
Lead play-by-play announcer Dan Hicks addressed the mistake late in the broadcast. He stated, “We want to take this time to make a correction. Our studio inadvertently showed the incorrect picture of the car crash Tiger Woods was in. It was another previous car crash.”
Hicks emphasized the importance of clarifying the situation. As the broadcast progressed, the team had not initially discussed Woods’ latest incident, but lead analyst Kevin Kisner later expressed concern about Woods’ condition.
Details of the Recent Incident
Tiger Woods was arrested shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday on Jupiter Island. The crash occurred when he attempted to overtake a work truck on a two-lane road near his residence. His vehicle, a Range Rover, clipped the truck’s trailer and rolled onto its side.
- No injuries were reported in the crash.
- Woods managed to exit the vehicle from the passenger side.
- He was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
Reactions to Woods’ Situation
Kisner, who is a teammate of Woods in the TGL, expressed his concern during the broadcast. He described the situation as “very disturbing” and highlighted Woods’ dedication to improving his game. Kisner mentioned that Woods had recently signed up for the U.S. Senior Open, hoping to return to competitive golf.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Kisner noted a silver lining, stating, “The positive aspect is that nobody was injured in the incident, and we can all move forward.”
As the golf community supports Woods, the incident serves as a reminder of the challenges athletes can face off the course.
