The Strokes hint at new music before Coachella set

The Strokes are stirring up fresh attention with cryptic activity that has put new music back at the center of fan speculation. The band shared retro visuals and opened a new sign-up page ahead of their Coachella set, while some fans received a message asking for email addresses to “share something soon. ”

The timing matters. The Strokes are scheduled to perform at Coachella on April 11 and April 18 at around 20: 40 local time for a 75-minute set, with warm-up dates set for San Francisco on April 4 and April 6. The same wave of activity has also pointed fans toward a possible rollout before a packed run of festivals that includes Outside Lands, Just Like Heaven, and Summer Sonic.

Cryptic visuals fuel the speculation

On their social media channels, The Strokes shared a series of retro, 8-bit style visuals, including a blue pixelated animation of a horse pulling a cassette tape and a notepad. The band also launched a new SMS sign-up page, inviting fans to opt in to messaging straight from the source.

That move quickly became the focus of fan discussion when messages began landing with a request for email addresses to “share something soon. ” The note ended with the line, “We’ll be in touch, ” adding to the sense that The Strokes are preparing a larger announcement.

The Strokes and the album question

Some fans also pointed to the phone number linked to the band ending in 1251, a detail that appears to nod to their 2003 track “12: 51. ” The band’s last full-length album, The New Abnormal, was produced by Rick Rubin and released in 2020.

In 2022, Rick Rubin said he was working on a new album with the band and described the recording experience in Costa Rica as “incredible. ” Around the same period, the frontman said the group had “jammed and started some stuff, ” but added that a complete record was “extremely very far off, ” while telling fans to “Check back in a year or [two] honestly. ”

What the schedule suggests

The current burst of activity is unfolding just before The Strokes move into a busy live schedule, which is why the new clues have drawn immediate attention. The San Francisco warm-up dates may offer the first public look at whether any new material is ready for the stage.

For now, the band has not confirmed a new album or set out a release date, and the details remain deliberately vague. Still, with Coachella approaching and the messaging campaign already in motion, The Strokes have made sure the conversation is now centered on what may come next for The Strokes.
