Canadas Wonderland set for major coaster changes as May 3 reopening nears
Canadas Wonderland is heading into its 2026 season with major changes to two of its best-known rides, just weeks before the park reopens on May 3 in Eastern Time. The biggest updates center on the longtime Mighty Canadian Minebuster and the ride formerly known as Flight Deck, now being reintroduced as The DareDeviler.
Park officials say the changes are part of a broader effort to refresh the attraction lineup for the season. The park is also adding a new chaperone policy that will affect younger guests when the gates open.
Canadas Wonderland prepares for a May 3 reopening
Canadas Wonderland is set to welcome guests back on May 3 ET, with the 2026 season bringing a mix of ride changes and policy updates. The park says the Minebuster and The DareDeviler are both part of this year’s headline changes, while new food and attractions are also set to debut.
The Minebuster, one of the park’s original opening-day attractions, is celebrating its 45th anniversary this season. A 980-foot section of the coaster is being retracked this off-season, with older sections replaced by new wood to improve the ride experience.
That work follows last year’s upgrades, which parkgoers had strongly welcomed after years of describing the ride as rough. The park’s message is clear: this is not a minor touch-up, but a continued effort to change how one of its oldest coasters feels in motion.
The DareDeviler gets a new identity
The inverted coaster that opened in 1995 as Top Gun and later operated as Flight Deck is getting its second re-theming. This season, it will carry the name The DareDeviler and keep an aviation theme, but with an old-timey daredevil twist aimed at aligning more closely with the Grande World Expo area.
The ride will also get track refinements and new trains with open, vest-style restraints. The park says the update is meant to create “a smoother, more immersive experience, ” with improved seating and greater comfort and visibility.
There is one catch: guests will not be able to ride the updated attraction right away. The DareDeviler is not expected to open until early summer, which means it will remain closed on opening day.
Park manager says the goal is a better ride
Heather Hill, park manager, said the park is aiming to give one of its classic roller coasters a fresh start. “We’re excited to breathe new life into one of our classic roller coasters, ” Hill said.
She added that the goal with The DareDeviler is to elevate the thrill experience with a smoother, more comfortable ride, while AlpenFury continues to deliver the record-breaking excitement that thrilled guests last season and will again in 2026.
That matters because AlpenFury remains a major anchor in the park’s coaster lineup. The park says it is Canada’s longest, tallest and fastest launch coaster, and it holds the world record for the most inversions on a launch coaster with nine.
New chaperone policy adds another layer
Alongside the ride changes, Canadas Wonderland is also introducing a new chaperone policy. Under the rule, guests 15 years old or younger must be accompanied by someone 21 or older.
The policy adds a new layer to the reopening at a time when the park is trying to balance big-ticket thrills with a more structured guest experience. For families planning a visit around opening day or early summer, the timing of both the ride work and the new rule will shape how the season begins.
With the May 3 ET reopening approaching, Canadas Wonderland is putting the spotlight on its classic attractions while reshaping two of them in a big way. If the upgrades land as intended, the season could mark one of the park’s most visible resets in years, with Canadas Wonderland now moving toward opening day under new rules and a newly remade coaster lineup.
