Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Join Ted Sarandos’ Event Amid Netflix Controversy
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have recently quelled rumors of a dispute with Netflix by making a public appearance. The couple attended a gathering in Montecito, California, hosted by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos and ambassador Nicole Avant, celebrating the second season of ‘Beef,’ set to premiere on April 16. This event also welcomed season two cast members, including Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny, alongside Emmy-winning creator Lee Sung Jin.
Recent Netflix Controversy
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s attendance comes shortly after reports emerged about Netflix distancing itself from them. A month ago, Variety indicated that the streaming platform’s leadership, particularly Sarandos, had grown weary of their partnership.
Reaffirming Relationships
Both Prince Harry and Meghan, along with Netflix representatives, have firmly denied these claims. A Netflix spokesperson described the reports as “absolutely inaccurate.” During the Next on Netflix presentation, chief content officer Bela Bajaria remarked on the importance of fact-checking, stating, “We still have a relationship with them.”
Current Collaborative Efforts
Bajaria emphasized that several projects are still in development, including films and documentaries. This includes a scripted drama about polo, following their collaboration on a docuseries set to release in 2024.
Business Adjustments
Despite the ongoing partnership, Netflix has made some changes regarding its deal with the couple. Key developments include:
- Exiting the partnership with Markle’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, in March.
- Downgrading Harry and Meghan’s overall deal to a first-look agreement, effective August 2025.
The couple’s appearance at the Netflix event serves as a reminder of their commitment to the platform amid ongoing speculations and business adjustments.
