Mission Beach: New town centre and resort makeover lift tourism push

Mission Beach is in the spotlight as two major projects move ahead on the Cassowary Coast. A $19 million town centre revitalisation plan and a multi-million-dollar resort refurbishment are being positioned as a fresh draw for visitors and owners alike. The changes are aimed at keeping Mission Beach active throughout the year and giving the area a sharper tourism profile.

New investment is changing Mission Beach

Club Wyndham Mission Beach has unveiled its multi-million-dollar refurbishment project after the property changed hands and entered a regular refurbishment cycle under its current ownership. The resort’s 48 suites have been updated with a design inspired by the Great Barrier Reef, the Wet Tropics rainforest, and the beachfront setting.

The makeover includes turquoise, coral and white tones, plus soft sandy textures, light timber finishes, fresh paint, and new cushions and ottomans. All furniture and beds are brand new. Kitchenettes were installed in studio rooms, new kitchens were added to the one-bedroom Grand apartments, and blackout curtains were fitted in both bedrooms and studios.

Shared areas were also refreshed. The reception area, internal corridors and gym were repainted and renovated to match the new look. Club Wyndham Mission Beach is now being presented as part of a long-term strategy to keep accommodation fresh and contemporary in Mission Beach.

Mission Beach town centre work adds momentum

At the same time, the Cassowary Regional Council has outlined the $19 million Mission Beach Town Centre Revitalisation Project. The plan includes underground services to improve amenity, new footpaths and street lighting, enhanced landscaping, and upgrades to the nearby Village Green and Porter Promenade.

Those changes matter because they signal a broader shift around Mission Beach, not just a single property upgrade. The aim is to improve the feel of the area for both visitors and locals, while supporting stronger year-round tourism on the Cassowary Coast.

What officials and managers are saying

Travel + Leisure Co. senior vice president Warren Cullum said the refurbishment is part of a club model that will keep Mission Beach refreshed over time. “Mission Beach will continue to have fresh, contemporary accommodation in the long-term, ” he said.

He added that research shows vacation owners spend more on holidays than regular travellers and that vacation ownership properties tend to have higher occupancy than traditional hotels and resorts. He also said the company is already seeing increased visitation and positive guest reviews.

Club Wyndham Mission Beach general manager Alicea Blanks said many guests have never visited Mission Beach before but want to return. “They love the seclusion the town offers and the friendliness of the locals, ” she said, adding that guests enjoy being able to experience attractions without the crowds found at more established destinations.

Quick context on Mission Beach

Mission Beach is being framed as an emerging regional destination with access to the Great Barrier Reef, the Wet Tropics rainforest, and Dunk Island. The latest work around Mission Beach builds on that positioning by pairing accommodation upgrades with public realm improvements.

The result is a clearer push to make Mission Beach more appealing across the full visitor journey, from arrival through to the stay itself. For now, the focus is on completion, presentation and keeping momentum visible as the town centre work and the refurbishment continue to shape Mission Beach.
