Two 23-year-olds from Natural Bridge Station were arrested Friday after a traffic stop near I-81, exit 156, led deputies to seize about 34 grams of methamphetamine.
Special agents with the James River Regional Drug Task Force and deputies with the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office stopped the vehicle on April 17. During the stop, a Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal drugs, and deputies searched the vehicle and found the methamphetamine.
The occupants were identified as Shyanne E. Bryant and Charles L. Fitzgerald, Jr., both 23. Each was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, 20 grams or more, and both were held at the Botetourt County Jail without bond.
The case fits a broader effort by law enforcement in the region to work across county lines. Rockbridge County and Lexington City Sheriff Tony McFadden, Botetourt County Sheriff Matt Ward and Bedford County Sheriff Mike Miller said the operation showed their agencies are committed to working together to target people trafficking drugs, through the James River Regional Drug Task Force and with local police and the Virginia State Police.
They said anyone bringing illegal drugs into or through their counties will be investigated and arrested, and that they will keep taking dangerous substances off the street and holding drug traffickers accountable.
