French Broad Chocolates PBC is recalling select Bette’s Bake Sale Bonbon Collection boxes sold nationwide after a labeling error left walnuts undeclared in the tasting notes insert. The recall covers six-piece, 12-piece and 24-piece boxes distributed from April 14, 2026, through April 20, 2026.
The affected bonbons carry batch numbers 260414 and 260417 and best by dates from June 22, 2026, to June 30, 2026. They were sold in French Broad Chocolates retail stores in Asheville, North Carolina, and online to customers in multiple states.
French Broad Chocolates said the mistake was in the printed tasting notes, where the Walnut Fudge bonbon was incorrectly identified and switched with the Peach Cobbler bonbon. That error meant walnuts were not listed as a tree nut allergen. The company said people with an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the products.
The company was notified of the problem on April 20, 2026, by a team member and announced the recall the same day through a notice published by the FDA. No illnesses have been reported.
The recall is a reminder that the danger in food safety is not always inside the chocolate itself. Here, the risk came from the insert tucked into the box, and for anyone with a walnut allergy, that missing line is the difference between a treat and an emergency.
