The severe storm threat is expected to hold off for the next couple of days, giving the metro a calmer stretch after several stormy weeks. Tuesday starts mostly sunny to partly cloudy and dry, with a spotty 30% chance of regular rain and rumbles between 11 AM and 6 PM ET before skies turn mostly cloudy for the rest of the day.
Temperatures on Tuesday should reach the low to mid 60s, with the metro topping out around 63 degrees. Monday evening cloud cover is expected to break up a bit tonight, and Tuesday morning temperatures are expected to fall into the mid 40s before the day warms up.
The setup matters because Monday's cold front is helping keep Tuesday cooler, even as regular rain and storm chances stay in the forecast. Wednesday is expected to bring mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid 60s, a needed break from the recent run of rain and storms.
The next real chance for unsettled weather comes Thursday afternoon to evening, when there is a 40% chance for regular rain and storms. Forecasters are not seeing any signs of severe storms at this time for Thursday, so the risk stays below a severe thunderstorm warning threshold.
After that, Friday and Saturday are expected to bring mostly to partly cloudy skies with highs in the mid to upper 60s. Sunday turns warmer, with temperatures rising into the mid 70s and a 30% chance of rain and storms. For now, the question is not whether storms return — they do — but whether any of them ever organize enough to turn severe, and the forecast says they should not in the next couple of days.
