Scotland is set to be the warmest place in the UK today as the Met Office forecast another 19C scorcher after a week of spring sunshine. The Highlands are expected to get the best of it, with the mercury rising from chilly morning lows of around 5C to 7C.
The warmth has already been building. Over the past few days, temperatures in Scotland have soared to 20C, and today’s forecast keeps the country near the top of the national table. Fort Augustus and Cannich, on the shores of Loch Ness, are among the places expected to reach 18C and 19C, while Fort William, Craig and Strathpeffer are set for 17C. Glasgow and Helensburgh, along with Ayr and Cumnock, are forecast to peak at 16C, and London is expected to reach 17C.
By around 1pm, temperatures were expected to rise into the mid-teens, before peaking an hour later as the day continued to warm up by 3pm. The run of mild weather has made Scotland the standout part of the UK for spring sunshine, with the Highlands again likely to see the strongest conditions.
That leaves little doubt about what today brings. Scotland is not just enjoying a brief sunny spell; it is the warmest part of the country, and the forecast keeps that pattern going for at least another day.
