could join on a permanent deal after the Glasgow club opened talks to buy the Uruguay left-back before his loan ends on 30 June.

Argentine journalist reported that Celtic "intend to permanently acquire" Saracchi and that "there will be a meeting in Scotland in a fortnight to work on the negotiation." Saracchi, who joined Celtic on an initial loan from that carried no option to buy, has made 23 appearances this season, roughly half of them starts, largely as back-up to .

The numbers underline why the talks matter now: Saracchi's temporary spell expires at the end of June and his contract with Boca Juniors runs until December 2027. By the time his loan ends there will be about 18 months left on that Boca deal. Boca paid £1.6 million to sign him at La Bombonera in August 2023, and Celtic would need to negotiate directly with Boca to turn the loan into a transfer.

Those inside details matter because the loan was agreed without a purchase option. That leaves Celtic in the position of having to agree terms with Boca and the player's agent, , if they want to keep Saracchi beyond the summer. Tejera has spoken positively about his client’s time in Glasgow, saying Saracchi arrived into a strong team and that the coach has been enthusiastic; Tejera also recalled an anecdote involving historic coach Martin O’Neill from one of his first visits.

Context makes the stakes clearer. Saracchi is one of six players currently on loan at Celtic, and he arrived at a club where he has often been Kieran Tierney’s deputy. Before moving to Scotland he had spells with RB Leipzig, Galatasaray and River Plate. He left Boca for the loan after a spell out of favour at La Bombonera — he fell behind Lautaro Blanco in the pecking order and was banished from the Boca squad after the Club World Cup.

That history cuts both ways for Celtic. On the one hand, Boca may be willing to negotiate a sale because Saracchi is not presently a first-choice there; on the other, any fee will have to reflect the fact Boca paid £1.6 million less than a year ago and still hold his registration until December 2027. Celtic will also be weighing whether a player who has been primarily a substitute this season is worth committing transfer funds to when they have six loanees in their squad and other recruitment priorities to consider.

There is a further complication. Saracchi is reportedly attracting attention elsewhere: in Argentina and an unnamed Premier League club have been linked with interest. That potential competition for his signature could push negotiations faster or raise the price Celtic must pay. For Celtic, the timeline is tight. The fortnightly meeting German Garcia Grova described will be the first concrete chance for the two clubs and the agent to map out price, structure and timing ahead of the 30 June deadline.

The most consequential question now is whether Celtic and Boca can bridge the contractual gap in time and on acceptable terms. With 18 months left on his Boca contract and a loan that contains no buy clause, any permanent move depends on a negotiated fee and agreement from Marcelo Tejera and Saracchi himself. The meeting in Scotland in a fortnight will tell whether Celtic are prepared to convert a useful loan into a transfer, or whether Saracchi will return to Buenos Aires and the uncertainty that has marked his time since the Club World Cup.
