were responding Tuesday afternoon to two separate incidents involving a firearm after pedestrians were struck by projectiles in the city’s downtown core.

The first incident happened at Russell Street and Patrick Street, and the second was reported on Palace Road near Park Street. Police said both incidents involved a black vehicle, possibly a Ford, with four passengers. Officers said passengers seated in the rear of the vehicle were seen firing a long gun-style air rifle at pedestrians in both cases.

Police asked residents to stay aware of the incidents and to report any suspicious behaviour. If anyone sees the vehicle, police said, do not approach it and call 911 immediately. The alert will remain in effect until the incident is resolved.

The warning matters because police say pedestrians were hit by projectiles in both incidents, turning what might have been treated as a nuisance or prank into an active public safety alert. Kingston remains under that alert while officers look for the vehicle and the people inside it.
