Viktor Arvidsson will miss Tuesday night’s Game 5 in boston vs buffalo because of an upper-body injury, leaving Boston without the winger who scored twice in Game 2. The Bruins enter western New York down 3-1 in the series, so one loss ends their season.
Sturm’s Buffalo trip
Marco Sturm said Arvidsson did not travel with the team to Buffalo, which removes him from the lineup for a game Boston has to win. Arvidsson logged only 3:13 of ice time in Sunday’s Game 4, then sat out the trip that carries the series back to western New York.
The timing cuts deeper because Arvidsson was one of Boston’s most productive forwards during the regular season. He finished his first year with the Bruins with 25 goals, 29 assists and 54 points in 69 games, then opened the playoffs with two goals in the road win in Game 2.
Game 4 changed the series
Boston and Buffalo split the first two games in Buffalo, but the Sabres have taken control since then. Buffalo won Game 3, 3-1, behind Alex Lyon in goal, then followed with a 6-1 win in Game 4 on Sunday.
That left Boston in a 3-1 hole entering Game 5, with Buffalo able to eliminate the Bruins on Tuesday night. The winner of the series advances to face the winner of the Tampa Bay-Montreal Atlantic Division series, and Boston now has to find enough scoring without Arvidsson to keep that path alive.
