Sinner beats Norrie to stretch run to 20 matches

kept rolling at the , beating 6-2, 7-5 to extend his winning streak to 20 matches. The world number one moved into the quarter-finals and stayed on course for a fourth ATP Masters 1000 title in a row.

The win came in less than 90 minutes and made Sinner only the second player in tennis history to win the first 20 Masters 1000 matches of a season. had already done it in 2011 and 2015, and Sinner now sits beside that standard after another straight-sets result.

It was also the first competitive meeting between Sinner and Norrie. Sinner said, “We know each other quite well. We practised a lot in the last tournament. We both kind of knew what to expect.”

Sinner said the schedule needed changes after that delay, saying, “[Jodar] finished very, very late [on Sunday], but at the same time I feel like we need to make some adjustments with scheduling of the day,” and added, “For matches at 8pm, it's very very late, even though you have one day in between - still, it's very very late.”

He pointed to the recovery burden too: “You finish at 1.30am and you need to eat, you need to have treatment, so it's very late.” Sinner said, “We try to adapt ourselves, our bodies and minds.”
