William Shatner Appears at Calgary Expo After Star Trek Rumors

William Shatner, 95, showed up at Calgary Expo on Saturday and joined a live star trek panel at the BMO Centre after rejecting false brain cancer claims spread online. The appearance put the actor back in front of a live audience while his health rumors were still circulating.

BMO Centre on Saturday

Shatner used the stage to speak directly to the crowd, telling stories from filming Star Trek between 1966 and 1969. He also described being pulled over by a police officer while rushing to set in full Captain Kirk costume, saying, "I thought I was going to be arrested," before the officer ended the exchange with, "He raises his hand in a Vulcan salute and says ‘live long and prosper.’”

Shatner Denies Brain Cancer

He had already pushed back on the false diagnosis on social media, writing, "My daughter came over to tell me her daughter heard that I had brain cancer." He added, "The people who are ill are those that are spreading these ridiculous stories.” Shatner also said he was "fit as a fiddle" and accused a Facebook page of using artificial intelligence to make misleading and monetised fake news stories about his health.

Rumors After Last Year

The Calgary appearance followed last year's report that he had been rushed to hospital, a claim his representatives dismissed by saying he was "100 percent healthy." Shatner later responded with, "Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated!" The newest round of rumors landed harder because he has previously said he battled stage four melanoma and has described himself as a cancer survivor.

For anyone watching his public schedule, the answer is simple: Shatner is still turning up in person, still controlling the story himself, and still treating Star Trek as a live part of his career rather than a distant archive.
