Bruce Cassidy Says Vgk Could Lead Back to Canada

Bruce Cassidy says vgk could put him back behind a Canadian bench, and he is open to the idea after the Golden Knights fired him last month. On the Leafs Morning Take podcast, he said winning a Stanley Cup in a Canadian city would be “kind of cool” because it has been a while.

Cassidy and the Golden Knights

Cassidy’s run in Vegas included a quick climb and a title. The Golden Knights hired him a few weeks after the Boston Bruins fired him in June 2022, then reached the playoffs during the 2022-23 regular season before Cassidy and Vegas beat the Florida Panthers to win the Stanley Cup.

That track record is why his latest comments land as more than a casual thought. He has already coached in Boston and Vegas, and the possibility of another job this summer points him back into the market after a firing that came only last month.

Canada on Cassidy’s radar

Cassidy said he has not done a deep dive into coaching in Canada, but he did not dismiss the idea. “I represented Canada at the Olympics and Four Nations. It was a great honour. But I haven’t done a deep dive into it,” he said on the podcast.

He added that the usual first questions still come before any city talk: “Usually, the first thing you think of is the market, does the team have a chance, how does it impact your family, then you worry about the city later. Is ownership solid, things like that?” That leaves Canada as a real option rather than a line from a coach looking for his next stop.

Vgk and the next bench

The friction in Cassidy’s situation is simple. He was fired by the Golden Knights last month, yet he also left Vegas with a Cup ring and a fast résumé that should keep him in the coaching pool. If a Canadian team calls, his own words suggest the city would come after the hockey, the market, and the family check.
