Blue Jays Rout Red Sox 8-1 to Finish Toronto Blue Jays Game Run
The Toronto Blue Jays turned their toronto blue jays game against the Boston Red Sox into an 8-1 win Wednesday at Rogers Centre, and the result gave them their third straight series victory. Toronto also closed the homestand with four wins in six games after entering the day 13-16.
Toronto Blue Jays At Rogers Centre
Toronto opened the damage in the third inning against Brayan Bello, loading the bases with three singles before Kazuma Okamoto drove in two runs with a single into left field. Yohendrick Pinango followed with an RBI single, and the inning set the tone for a night in which the Blue Jays kept stacking traffic and runs instead of settling for one big swing.
Ernie Clement and Brandon Valenzuela each homered for Toronto, adding to an offense that spread production across the lineup. Clement’s night fit the shape of the win: the Blue Jays did not need one isolated rally, because they kept getting on base and turning innings into pressure.
George Springer Returns
George Springer was activated off the injured list before the game and played for the first time since fouling a ball off his left big toe on April 11. He later delivered a pinch-hit RBI single, and his first game action since the injury added another bat to a lineup that had already taken control.
Springer called watching games from the bench “Brutal,” and he said, “It's a broken toe. So, it's just one of those things where as long as I feel like I can go, I'm going to go.” His return came before the bat had even fully settled on the night, and Toronto still found room to score without leaning on him from the start.
John Schneider’s Offense
John Schneider said during Wednesday morning’s State of the Squad meeting that the club was trying to diversify its at-bat profile and “thread that needle” between contact quality and power. After the win, he pointed to the way the group finished the game: “When it starts to go, everyone kind of feels it, and I think everyone kind of narrows in their focus a little bit. I thought up and down today, the bats were really good.”
Eric Lauer gave Toronto 4.1 innings and allowed one run, enough to keep the Red Sox from ever turning the game back toward a contest. The Blue Jays’ 8-1 finish, plus the 41,314 at Rogers Centre, gave them a result that matched the message from the morning meeting: more consistent at-bats, more lineup depth, and a third straight series win to go with it.
