Tom Crabtree says Met Office Weather turns unsettled, with 24°C Friday

Met Office weather will stay mainly warm and sunny for much of the UK early this week before turning more unsettled by Friday, Tom Crabtree said. The Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster said rain and showers will spread in from the southwest, with temperatures potentially reaching 24°C in central and southern England.

Tom Crabtree Forecast

Crabtree said Monday starts warm for many parts of the UK, with a headline maximum of around 23°C possible in southern England. Showers move southwards across parts of Scotland and England, and some may be heavy, with a risk of thunder in eastern Scotland and parts of central and southeast England.

Tuesday brings a cooler feel for many areas, with cloud and patchy drizzle early on before sunny spells develop widely. Temperatures are expected to be several degrees lower than Monday across much of England and Wales, though north-west Scotland and western Northern Ireland could still see highs near 19°C.

Midweek Sunshine

High pressure is expected to keep Wednesday and Thursday largely dry and fine for many areas, with plenty of sunshine. Southern areas will turn windier on those days, and coastal gales are possible in parts of the southwest.

That settled spell is short-lived. Crabtree said: "By Friday, conditions are expected to become more unsettled, with rain and showers spreading in from the southwest, some of which could be heavy and possibly thundery." He added: "Ahead of this, it will feel warm and humid in parts of England on Friday, with temperatures potentially reaching 24°C in central and southern areas."

He also said: "Into the Bank Holiday weekend, the weather looks more changeable, with showers at times – particularly in the north – but also some sunnier intervals." Crabtree added: "Details will become clearer closer to the weekend, so do keep up to date with the latest Met Office forecast."

Bank Holiday Weekend

The forecast points to a shift that matters most for people planning around the holiday period: warm conditions early in the week, then a later move toward showers, rain and the chance of thunder. The Bank Holiday weekend is expected to bring a mix of sunshine and showers through Sunday and Monday.
