DWP Shifts May 4 Payments Early Under Dwp Bank Holiday Payment Changes
The Department for Work and Pensions has changed dwp bank holiday payment changes for people due State Pension or benefits on Monday, May 4. Those payments will land in bank accounts on Friday, May 1 instead, and the same rule applies to payments due Monday, May 25, which will arrive on Friday, May 22.
May 4 Payment Change
The department said the early payment applies to State Pension, Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment, Child Benefits, Adult Disability Payment and Attendance Allowance. If an upcoming payment does not fall on May 4 or May 25, it will be issued as normal.
DWP offices and phone lines will be closed over the bank holiday, and the department said payments are typically made when all services are available, including webchat and Jobcentre Plus offices. That leaves the Friday before each bank holiday as the point when affected money is moved out.
May 25 Bank Holiday
The second date matters for people whose money is due later in the month. Payments scheduled for Monday, May 25 will also be brought forward, with money paid on Friday, May 22 instead.
Social Security Scotland has said Best Start Foods payments will not be affected. The same type of payment change also applies to HMRC and Social Security Scotland scheduled payments due on Monday, May 4, so the early-payment pattern is not limited to DWP customers alone.
For anyone expecting one of the listed benefits, the practical step is simple: check whether the due date falls on May 4 or May 25. If it does, the money is due two or three days earlier than the bank holiday date, not on the Monday itself.
People waiting on a payment outside those two dates will see no change, and the early-payment rule leaves the rest of the month on the normal schedule.
