Apple May Brand First Foldable as iPhone Ultra — Latest Iphone Rumors
Apple’s latest iphone rumors point to its first foldable phone arriving this fall, and the company is expected to call it iPhone Ultra. The model would sit above the Pro line, which means buyers looking for Apple’s newest flagship tier may be facing a smaller launch window and a higher-end product slot.
iPhone Ultra this fall
A source familiar with Apple’s plans said the company seems set on expanding its Ultra branding with the new flagship iPhone arriving this fall. The iPhone Ultra is expected to be the marquee announcement at the iPhone 18 Pro event in September, and Apple is working hard to ship it alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models without major delays.
Ultra branding after 2022
Apple already used Ultra for the Apple Watch Ultra and the M1 Ultra chip in 2022, so the name would extend a label the company has reserved for its most expensive products. The foldable iPhone would not technically be part of the iPhone 18 lineup, even as it shares the same event stage, and Apple is expected to market it as a higher-end model rather than a replacement for the Pro models.
Smaller quantities, later store dates
The Ultra models may still hit stores a few weeks later and in smaller quantities, which makes early availability less certain for anyone waiting to buy on day one. That supply profile points to a limited first run rather than a broad rollout, and it could leave the first wave of buyers with fewer options at launch.
MacBook Ultra and 2027
Apple is also likely to bring the Ultra branding to the Mac, where an upcoming OLED touchscreen MacBook is expected to use the Ultra name rather than joining the MacBook Pro line. That MacBook Ultra launch is likely to move to the first half of 2027 because of a recent RAM supply shortage, and the base iPhone, iPhone Air, and iPhone 18e are also shifted to that window.
