Farringdon Station closed as ThamesLink halts trains in both directions
Farringdon Station was closed until further notice after armed officers descended on the station and emergency services dealt with an incident. Trains were not stopping there in either direction, and ThamesLink told passengers to use another station if they planned to travel from Farringdon.
ThamesLink said, "The emergency services are dealing with an incident at Farringdon station." It also said, "The station has been closed until further notice and no trains will call here in either direction."
ThamesLink travel advice
The operator said people planning to travel from Farringdon would need to use an alternative station to board a service towards their destination. People wishing to travel to Farringdon were told to alight at another station and use an alternative route to get there.
Footage from the scene showed officers flooding the station and patrolling the surrounding area, while police were also patrolling nearby streets. Armed police were spotted at Farringdon Station as live coverage introduced by Lauran O'Toole showed the disruption unfolding.
Farringdon police response
The source did not say what the incident was, but the closure immediately removed Farringdon from the network for journeys in both directions. For passengers already headed that way, the practical step was to change plans and use another station rather than wait for service to resume.
The open-ended closure leaves Farringdon without a return-to-service time, so anyone heading into the area has to build in a diversion before they travel. That makes ThamesLink's alternative-station advice the only operating instruction available at the time of reporting.
