NCP to refund March 26 and 27 Grantham charge notices
NCP will cancel or refund parking charge notices issued on March 26 and 27 at Grantham Railway Station, after drivers challenged tickets issued during the handover period at grantham. The company said any charge notices from Friday, March 27, will be cancelled or refunded.
Andrew Wheeler, a Nottingham driver, parked for around half an hour on March 27 while collecting a passenger and later received a £60 charge. Wheeler said he did not pay because the pay machine was closed and banners read “free parking today”.
March 27 at Grantham Station
NCP said it had looked into the matter after hearing from several motorists, and David Hindmarch, managing director of Grantham Estates, said the firm had raised concerns. NCP also said no tickets were issued after March 27 when it stopped operating the site.
Wheeler photographed the signs and described the situation as “a bit odd”. NCP later withdrew Wheeler’s charge after LincsOnline contacted the company, and the company told him, “We apologise to Mr Wheeler for any inconvenience caused.”
Grantham Estates and the takeover
The car parks at Grantham Station 1-3 were among 22 sites listed to close on Friday, March 27, after NCP went into administration and stepped away from the site. Grantham Estates kept the car parks open while new arrangements were introduced, and later made arrangements for Euro Car Parks to take over from March 31.
That left a short period when some drivers parked under one set of signs and found charges issued soon after. Some motorists said they received tickets dated March 28, while Grantham Estates had previously said parking was free while the new arrangements were introduced.
How drivers seek refunds
NCP said, “Having looked into this matter, we can confirm that any PCNs issued at Grantham Station on Friday, March 27, will be cancelled/refunded.” Drivers who believe they are still owed a refund should contact NCP directly following the appeal instructions on their parking charge.
Hindmarch said, “As long as they are true to their word and they do that, then that’s good.” For motorists who paid after parking during the transition, the practical next step is to use the appeal route on the notice itself and press NCP for the refund the company says is due.
