Bethany England to Leave Tottenham After 32 League Goals

bethany england will leave Tottenham at the end of this season, ending a three-and-a-half-year spell that included 32 league goals and a place at the center of the club’s attack. The captain said goodbye in a tearful video message published by the club.

England, 31, has seven WSL goals this season and 89 in the division’s 15-year history, leaving her eight behind Vivianne Miedema on the all-time list. Tottenham are fifth with two matches remaining, and the club has already set out a summer of departures around her exit.

England’s Spurs exit

England said the club had been “a place that was helping put me back together” and thanked supporters for the role they played in that process. She added: “From the very beginning you gave me something I didn’t even realise I was searching for: your warmth, your belief, your unwavering support. You even made me feel seen again. In moments where I questioned myself, you never did. I came here hoping to rediscover something I had lost but I am leaving with so much more than I’d ever imagined.”

That farewell closes a productive run that began after she arrived from Chelsea and scored 12 league goals in her first six months. Across her Spurs spell, she also helped the team reach the 2024 Women's FA Cup final, giving Tottenham a scorer and captain who shaped their rise on and off the pitch.

Tottenham’s summer overhaul

Her departure sits inside a broader clear-out. Tottenham announced the summer exits of Amy James-Turner, Luana Bühler, Charlotte Grant, Josefine Rybrink and Kit Graham this week, a list that leaves the club rebuilding several parts of the squad at once.

Andy Rogers said: “Bethany’s leadership has shaped a defining era in the history of Tottenham Hotspur Women.” He added that she “drove a rise in standards, professionalism and desire” after arriving, and said she has been “instrumental in connecting with our fans to bring them closer to the team, and committing herself to our foundation to ensure we are making a positive impact on the community.”

England’s exit removes Tottenham’s captain and leading scorer from a side still chasing the season’s finish with two matches left. It also ends a run that made her the seventh player to pass 200 WSL appearances in March, with her place in the club’s recent history already set.
