Alison Hammond to Host ITV's Name That Tune Reboot
alison hammond will host ITV’s revived Name That Tune, bringing the gameshow back to the network after a break of decades. The commission puts a familiar format back into ITV’s daytime-and-entertainment mix, with a presenter who already fronts two other British television staples.
ITV and Hammond
ITV has revived Name That Tune with Hammond in the lead role, and the series has been commissioned by Katie Rawcliffe and Louise Major. Bright Entertainment, ITV Studios’ label, is making the reboot alongside BiggerStage, which keeps the production inside an established entertainment pipeline rather than a one-off one-season experiment.
Rawcliffe said, “Name That Tune is such an iconic brand and we are excited to be bringing this refreshed global format to the UK audience. It’s a fun family series that not only sees contestants challenged in the studio, but viewers can play along with all the family, providing an unique playlist that spans generations.”
From 1976 to 1987
Name That Tune originally aired on ITV from 1976 to 1987, then returned briefly in the 1990s on Channel 5. That history gives Hammond’s version a different job from a standard reboot: it is not just reviving a title, but restoring an ITV-branded format that has been off the channel for decades.
The format has also lived a longer life overseas. The Fox version returned in 2020 and has run for five seasons with Jane Krakowski as host, giving ITV a proven modern template rather than a blank-page relaunch.
Fox version, new home
Prentiss Fraser said, “With the continued success of the hit Fox series in the U.S, we’re thrilled to see it find a new home on such a fantastic network and excited to be part of bringing the UK version to life.” The band from the Fox version will join Hammond for ITV, keeping one of the clearest ties to the U.S. edition intact.
The practical upside for ITV is straightforward: the network gets a recognisable brand with an existing international run, plus a host with broad mainstream reach. Hammond already presents ITV’s This Morning and Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off, and she has also started hosting Channel 4’s Your Song, so the new commission slots her into another high-recognition format rather than asking viewers to learn a new face.
Next for viewers
For viewers, the change is less about concept than packaging: ITV is betting that a 1970s format, a familiar band, and Hammond’s profile can make the reboot feel current without losing what made the title work before. That is a safer entertainment play than inventing a new show from scratch, and it gives the network a cleaner launch path because the rules of the game are already built into the brand.
