Zian Flemming Hits 10 as Burnley Braces for Interest
Zian Flemming hit double figures for the season against Nottingham Forest, and Burnley now face the real possibility of losing a forward who has carried much of their attack. His 10th goal arrives as the club prepares for a summer of transition and a return to the Championship.
Flemming’s Burnley output
Only one of his goals this season has not come in the league, a reminder of how often he has delivered in Burnley’s most important matches. Flemming has been central to the attack and has settled into a more natural centre-forward role, which has sharpened his output compared with last term.
That is the form drawing attention elsewhere. Burnley are dropping back into the Championship after a Premier League campaign in which they are set to finish with fewer than 30 points, a sharp fall from the 100 points they collected in the division last season.
Joel Piroe for Burnley
Joel Piroe has already been floated as a possible successor if Flemming leaves, giving Burnley a clear idea of the profile they may need to replace. The Leeds United striker has 73 goals and 18 assists in 179 appearances in English football’s second tier, spread across four seasons since arriving in Britain via PSV Eindhoven.
Piroe is also attracting interest from Rangers and Middlesbrough, so Burnley would not be moving alone if they pursue him. That leaves the club facing a straightforward but awkward task: protect a forward who has just reached 10 goals, or replace him while the squad is being reshaped for a first season back in the Championship.
Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker
The wider shake-up is not limited to the front line. Steven Gerrard is expected to take the reins from Scott Parker, adding another layer to a summer in which Burnley could change both manager and key attacking personnel.
