Narangi Fatak Level Crossing Near Virar May Shut as Overbridge Nears Completion
The level crossing at Narangi Fatak just ahead of Virar station may soon give way to a new road overbridge that is nearing completion. The bridge could partially open for road traffic in the next few weeks, a step that would affect LC 41 and the repeated stoppages that have long slowed movement there.
Narangi Fatak LC 41
Narangi Fatak, officially LC 41 in railway parlance, has a TVU of 3,43,000 per annum. At least one water tanker or truck gets stuck there every week, and when that happens train and road traffic are detained for 20-30 minutes.
Rajendra B. Aklekar reported on 02 May,2026 08:01 AM IST that the new road overbridge near Narangi Fatak is nearing completion. The bridge is part of the quadrupling of the Virar-Dahanu section under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project-3.
Virar-Dahanu Section
Prathamesh Prabhutendolkar, joint secretary of Dahanu Vaitarna Pravasi Sevabhavi Sanstha, said closure of the gate would help the Vaitarna-Dahanu Road section. He said Dahanu local trains had to wait 10-12 minutes for gate clearance for a long time, which often caused cascading delays for later services.
A railway official said the crossing has become a weekly problem because water tankers and trucks use the skewed pathway across the tracks, get stranded in the middle, and then have to be towed or pushed away. The official said closing the gates will immensely help rail traffic.
Bridge Closure Push
Local activists are trying to delay the closure by demanding a road underbridge before the gates are shut. Surabh Raut said, "Opening of Narangi road bridge is equally significant for rail as well a". The opening would also affect east-west commute in the area.
