Maikel Garcia Starts Fast

The Royals opened with pressure. Maikel Garcia doubled on the first pitch of the game, then scored on a two-out RBI single by Starling Marte in the bottom of the first. Garcia added another swing in the top of the second, launching a homer to put Kansas City ahead 2-1.

That edge did not hold. The Athletics answered by climbing back into the game and eventually taking control before Garcia’s line finished at 3-for-5 with two doubles, a homer, two runs, a stolen base and one RBI.

Nick Kurtz Drives The Rally

Kurtz supplied the separator. He doubled in Shea Langeliers and Jacob Wilson, then later scored on a dribbler that Loftin fielded, leading to an off-line throw to Salvador Perez. Those runs turned a narrow game into a cushion the Royals never erased.

Jeffrey Springs also shaped the finish before leaving for the Athletics after throwing a lot of pitches in a short period of time. Oakland’s bullpen handled the rest, covering six innings of five-hit, two-run ball to protect the lead through the late innings.

Royals Run Out Of Outs

Elias Diaz cut the Athletics’ lead to 6-3 with a homer in the top of the eighth, but the Royals could not build on it. Jac Caglianone reached base in the top of the ninth, then Vinnie Pasquantino pinch-hit with Kansas City down to its last out. The final push ended there.

The series ended 2-1 in Oakland’s favor, and the Royals left with another loss added to a season record that now sits at 12-19. For Kansas City, the day was decided by a brief early lead, a middle-inning swing from Kurtz, and a bullpen stretch that held the score once Springs exited.
