V’landys and Youi Launch $1 Million Magic Round Drive
The Australian Rugby League Commission and Youi have launched magic round as a fundraising platform for a $1 million drive tied to the 2026 NRL festival in Brisbane. The campaign, called Kick for a Cause, will turn scoring plays into donations for paediatric cancer centres across Australia and New Zealand.
V’landys on Rugby League’s role
Peter V’landys AM said rugby league was stepping up to help children fighting cancer. “Every child fighting cancer deserves the very best care, comfort and hope, and rugby league is stepping up to help deliver it.”
The three-day festival runs from May 15 to May 17 at Suncorp Stadium, with the fundraising set to ride on the match action rather than a separate appeal. That makes the scoring itself part of the money-raising, with every on-field scoring play intended to become a direct contribution toward medical equipment, clinical care, and family support programs.
Youi’s performance-based pledge
There is a clear mechanic behind the drive. Youi has committed to a performance-based donation structure during the event, tying the total to what happens on the field across the round.
Nathaniel Simpson said, “At Youi, our team is on yours, supporting strong communities means giving back and investing in causes that genuinely affect the lives of everyday Australians,” The plan links 17 clubs with 11 specialist paediatric hospitals, widening the reach beyond Brisbane and into regional care networks.
11 hospitals, 11 regional hubs
The funds will be distributed through the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation and the Starship Foundation, with support intended to reach 11 key regional hubs. The campaign is aimed at paediatric cancer centres across Australia and New Zealand, and the source says about 1,000 children and teens are diagnosed with cancer annually.
That number gives the drive its urgency. Kick for a Cause is not framed as a one-off gesture; it is built to connect a high-scoring event with hospital support, and the $1 million target is the clearest benchmark attached to it.
For fans in Brisbane, the practical takeaway is simple: the scoring on May 15-17 is carrying a fundraising purpose as well as the result on the field. For the hospitals named in the program, the round becomes a direct route to equipment, care, and family support funding.
