Zaïre-Emery rescues PSG in 2-2 Ligue 1 draw with Lorient

PSG left ligue 1 with one point after a 2-2 draw against Lorient, a result that arrived in the middle of a Champions League tie and gave Lens some room in the standings. Warren Zaïre-Emery put PSG back in front in the 62nd minute, but that lead lasted only 16 minutes.

Mbaye Starts Fast

Mbaye opened the scoring in the 6th minute after a center from Doué was pushed back by goalkeeper Mvogo. Lorient answered six minutes later when Pagis finished a volley to level the match at 1-1.

PSG had chances to pull away before halftime. Lucas Hernandez hit the top of the crossbar in the 34th minute on a corner played short, and that missed chance kept Lorient alive going into the break.

Zaïre-Emery Changes Little

Zaïre-Emery needed only one touch to flip the score back PSG’s way. His shot from 20 meters in the 62nd minute took a deflection off Talbi and beat the Lorient defense for a 2-1 lead.

The lead did not hold. Mounguengue gave the ball away before Tosin punished PSG in the 78th minute, and Lorient had the equalizer they needed to leave Paris with a point. Marin then stopped Tosin from scoring again in the 83rd minute, a save that preserved the draw as the match tightened late.

Late Posts, VAR, and Lens

PSG kept pressing after the equalizer. Hernandez hit the post in the 85th minute with a header, and Mayulu struck the post again in the 88th minute before VAR overturned a late penalty decision by referee Bastien Dechepy.

Lorient had already secured survival before kickoff, so its point added comfort rather than urgency. For PSG, the draw leaves only one point from a match that should have been controlled after Zaïre-Emery’s goal, and it keeps the door open for Lens in the table while PSG navigates the stretch between its Champions League semifinal legs against Bayern.
