Tom Felton Lifts They Will Kill You to No. 4 on Apple TV

Tom Felton’s They Will Kill You hit fourth place on the U.S. Apple TV store one day after its Aug. 28 digital debut. The jump came after a theatrical run that opened on Mar. 27 and largely stayed under the radar, giving the film a cleaner read on demand once it reached PVOD.

Apple TV Places Felton's Film Fourth

Fourth place on Aug. 29 was followed by fifth place the next day in the U.S. Apple TV store, a quick drop but still a strong first 48 hours for a title that grossed $18.9 million worldwide against a $20 million budget. For a horror release with mixed reviews, that kind of digital launch says the audience was more responsive at home than in theaters.

Zazie Beetz leads the cast, with Patricia Arquette, Myha’la, Paterson Joseph, Heather Graham, and Felton alongside her. Kirill Sokolov directed from a script he co-wrote with Alex Litvak, while Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti produced the film. That lineup matters because the film’s commercial life now depends less on the box office that capped out below budget and more on the home-release window that opened in August.

June 30 Physical Release

The digital release also came with bonus features on making the slasher, creating The Virgil, major scenes, stunts, and practical effects using puppets and prosthetics. That extra material gives the film a second sales pitch beyond the movie itself, which is useful for a title that blends horror, action, and comedy and is still looking for a longer tail.

They Will Kill You will be available to own on 4K UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD on June 30. It improved to tenth place in Australia and Canada the following day and moved from eighth to fifth place in Italy, a sign that the digital audience was not limited to one market. For Felton, who has also been busy with a Broadway run and several films, the sharper home response is the real story: the movie found more traction after leaving theaters than it did in them.
