West Midlands Police recover suspected vehicle after Thomas Brown dies
West Midlands Police said Thomas Brown, a 29-year-old cyclist and father, died this week after being critically injured in a hit and run on Heath Way in Hodge Hill on 26 April. He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after the collision, and the driver remains on the run.
Police have recovered a vehicle suspected of being involved, and forensic investigations are due to take place. Officers are still trying to identify who was driving the black Estate type car that failed to stop at the scene at around 7.45pm and was last seen heading towards Coleshill Road.
Det Sgt Adam Alcock appeal
Det Sgt Adam Alcock, of West Midlands Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said specialist officers are supporting Brown's family during what he called a very difficult time. He also said: "Collisions on the road have devasting consequences and my priority is to get answers for his family."
Alcock added: "We’re appealing for people who may have information which can assist us to please get in touch." He said: "I know from CCTV that there were other cars and witnesses at the location at the time of the collision and I would appeal for those people to make contact with us."
Heath Way CCTV appeal
The collision has moved from a serious injury case to a fatal investigation, with police still looking for the driver and asking anyone who saw the black Estate type car to come forward. Brown was described as the "kindest soul," and police said the public can help by calling 101 and quoting log 4048-26042 or by emailing sciu@.
For anyone who was on Heath Way near Hodge Hill on the evening of 26 April, the practical next step is direct contact with investigators. West Midlands Police say the vehicle has been recovered, but the account of what happened still depends on witnesses and CCTV from the scene.
