Toronto Hydro Power Outage to Hit Downtown Overnight for 11 Hours

Toronto Hydro said a toronto hydro power outage will affect select downtown Toronto buildings from 11 p.m. Saturday until 11 a.m. Sunday while Hydro One replaces equipment. The utility said the work will hit only some residential and commercial buildings in the area, not all.

Downtown Toronto boundaries

The outage area runs from Queen Street West south to Front Street and from Bathurst Street east to Bay Street. Toronto Hydro said customers in the affected buildings received advance notice.

Toronto police guidance

Toronto police told drivers to treat intersections without operational traffic signals as a four-way stop and to use extra caution. A police spokesperson said, "Those who are affected by the outage should plan ahead and ensure their electronics (cellphones, tablets, vehicles, etc.) are fully charged in case they are needed in an emergency."

Hydro One work overnight

The planned outage begins at 11 p.m. Saturday and is set to end at 11 a.m. Sunday. That window leaves overnight hours and the Sunday morning commute period within the same work block, and it places the repair schedule directly in the middle of downtown residential and commercial use.
