Pierce Brosnan transforms in Giant trailer as Brendan Ingle
Pierce Brosnan appears in the new Giant trailer as Irish boxing trainer Brendan Ingle, and the 72-year-old looks far from his usual screen image. The trailer shows him under a bald cap, with thinning white hair and a prosthetic nose, in a film that follows Naseem Hamed’s rise and his relationship with Ingle.
The movie is built around Hamed’s story, from Sheffield to becoming champion of the world. Its official synopsis frames the drama around a fighter who faced racism and islamophobia in Britain in the 1980s and 1990s while carving out a 36-win, one-loss career with 31 knockouts.
Giant and Brendan Ingle
Giant uses Ingle as more than a sideline figure. The film explores the “unlikely and tender relationship” between Naz and his trainer, describing Ingle as “a steel industry worker who ran a humble boxing gym in a church hall in the North of England; and the instrumental role that Ingle played on Naz's road to success,” according to the official synopsis.
That setup gives Brosnan a supporting role with real dramatic weight, especially because Ingle was not just a trainer but a central part of Hamed’s climb. Ingle died in 2018 at age 77, after being made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1998.
Brosnan’s 2024 set look
Fans first got a look at Brosnan in 2024, when he was spotted on set in a blue tracksuit, thin glasses and a white-hair combover. Olivia Barrowclough, who plays journalist Vicki Quinn, said, “A lot of my scenes are with him when he's wearing all these prosthetics to make him look older. We were filming the end of the film before the start, and he really didn't look like himself,” a line that now matches what the trailer shows on screen.
The cast around him includes Amir El-Masry as Naseem as a young adult, with Katherine Dow Blyton, Ali Saleh, Ghaith Saleh and Toby Stephens also appearing. Sylvester Stallone executive-produced the film, which gives the project a second layer of familiarity for viewers who know the boxing genre from both the ring and the screen.
May 22 release
Giant was released in select theaters and on video on demand on May 22. For viewers, that means the trailer is not teasing a distant rollout; the film is already on the market, and Brosnan’s transformation is now part of the sell to both theatrical and home audiences.
