Atlanta United Target Third Straight Win vs CF Montréal at Home — Montréal – Atlanta Utd

Atlanta United face CF Montréal in montréal – atlanta utd at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 2, carrying two wins on the bounce into their next home match. The run includes back-to-back road victories, something the club had not done since 2019.

Martino’s home return

Head coach Tata Martino said Atlanta want to “prolong this good moment that we're having.” That is the task now: turn road form into points at home, with two home matches left before the World Cup break.

The timing gives the match extra weight. Atlanta are trying to stretch a streak built away from home into a run that holds up at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where the margin for error tightens once the schedule turns toward the break.

Alzate stays out

Steven Alzate remains out recovering from an adductor injury, while Miguel Almirón is questionable because of a knee issue. Cayman Togashi is also questionable while recovering from an ankle injury, and Sergio Santos is questionable with a calf problem.

That leaves Atlanta with one eye on availability and another on continuity. The list has moved in the right direction, though, with three players shifting from out to questionable as the group works closer to full strength.

Reilly’s rise for Atlanta

Will Reilly, 23, has been part of the push. He played a complete match at center defensive midfield in the U.S. Open Cup win, after Alexey Miranchuk was substituted in the 63rd minute and Emmanuel Latte Lath passed the captain’s armband to him.

Reilly said, “I was super surprised, I was not expecting it.” He added, “Manu just came over and tossed it to me. I thought he was passing me a note, but it was the armband.”

The homegrown group is adding to that feeling. Cooper Sanchez, 18, scored his first goal for the club, and Jay Fortune, 23, set up Miranchuk’s free kick last weekend. Reilly said of the younger players, “This is our team. We grew up here. This is part of our identity,” and Martino called himself “Almost a grandfather” while describing the group.

Atlanta now have a chance to turn that mix of healthy returns, young contributors and road confidence into a home result against Montréal. A win would keep the streak moving and make the final two home dates before the break even more important for the table and the squad’s rhythm.
