Xbox Live and party chat hit by over 1,900 complaints — Xbox Down
Xbox down reports piled up on Saturday as Xbox Live and Xbox party chat appeared to stop working for many users, with people seeing the 0x80004005 error. The complaints pointed to problems with server connections and communications features, leaving players unable to use parties, messages, or groups.
Over 1900 Xbox complaints
Downdetector noted over 1900 people lodging complaints about Xbox issues, which is enough to show this was not just a single-account glitch. One user asked, "Is it just me or is @Xbox live down?" and another asked, "are the parties down for yall too?"
0x80004005 on Xbox Live
The 0x80004005 error often points to a sign-in failure or an unsynchronized state, so the code itself fits the complaints about messaging and party access. One user said, "Exactly, it seems to be down. Communications aren't working, you can't use groups or see messages, but you can still play."
Xbox Support had not posted a message about the outage yet, and the cause was not known. That left users with generic fixes for the error, including signing out and back in, restarting the console or PC, and repairing Gaming Services.
PC fixes for Xbox app
For PC users, the suggested steps included updating Windows and the Xbox app, verifying date and time settings, and using PowerShell to remove and reinstall gaming services. The detailed complaint from one user described messages disappearing inside the Xbox app and said, "This app isn't just for games it actually has real lives hanging in the balance," which shows how quickly a chat outage turns into a real communication problem for people who rely on it.
The open question is whether Xbox will explain what broke and whether the fix will be server-side or something users have to repair on their own devices.
