Victor Radley Avoids Sin Bin Twice in Sydney Roosters 38-24 Win

Victor Radley stayed on the field twice as the sydney roosters beat the Brisbane Broncos 38-24 at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night. The Roosters got the result, but the calls around Radley’s contact on Patrick Carrigan and later a possible hip-drop tackle on Deine Mariner turned the match into a disciplinary flashpoint.

Radley at Allianz Stadium

Radley was in the thick of it for the first 50 minutes, and many around the match viewed him as fortunate to avoid the sin bin. He made contact with Carrigan on the chin with his head during a tackle that was not penalised at the time, then was put on report after what appeared to be a hip-drop tackle on Mariner.

Mariner left the field with an ankle injury and did not return. He was one of six players who failed to finish the game, along with Mark Nawaqanitawase, Angus Crichton, Lindsay Collins, Adam Reynolds and Josiah Karapani.

Broncos frustration around Carrigan

The reaction spilled beyond the ground. Peter FitzSimons posted on X on May 2, 2026: “You can smash another bloke on the chin with your head in the #NRL, and stay on the field??I confess surprise and alarm. If that's not a send-off, what DOES it take?”

Andrew Voss also posted on X on May 2, 2026: “I hope I am wrong but Victor Radley might set a record for charges in one game tonight. I would be surprised if MRC dont produce at least 3, but more likely 4.”

The noise around the tackles was sharpened by the way the match unfolded. Broncos fans were left questioning how Radley remained on the field after the Carrigan contact, then had another incident added to the report sheet before the final whistle.

Spencer Leniu's short stint

Spencer Leniu’s night was brief but tidy in the numbers. He played 14 minutes, made one run for five metres and added three tackles.

That matters for NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley, who will pick his team in a little more than two weeks. Leniu has been on the periphery of the Roosters side since his return, and this outing did little to change the picture except keep him visible to the selectors.

The Roosters still banked the 38-24 win, but the match will be remembered for the officiating debate around Radley and the disciplinary scrutiny that followed. If the Match Review Committee adds charges, the talking point from Allianz Stadium will move from the scoreline to what comes next for Radley and how the Broncos were left to absorb another injury exit.
