Curtis Jones Faces Liverpool Call as McAllister Warns
curtis jones faces a summer decision at Liverpool, with Gary McAllister warning that leaving Anfield could send his career backwards. Jones is one of eight players who will have a year left on their deals in July, and Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have both been linked with him.
McAllister on Jones
McAllister put the issue plainly ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Manchester United. “But it’s about consistently grinding out performances and putting a big body of work together over a longer period.”
He added that Jones is “very capable” and said the midfielder has already played “probably over 100” games, but the decision now sits with the player if he is not a regular starter. “Because when you leave Liverpool, you’re only really going one way. There’s not many moves upwards from Liverpool.”
That warning lands at the point where Liverpool have to sort more than one future. In the January transfer window, the club held talks with Inter Milan, then decided no senior player would be allowed to depart before the end of the current campaign.
Van Dijk on Everton
Virgil van Dijk offered the clearest club-side view after the Merseyside derby victory over Everton. He said Jones was “outstanding against Everton,” calling him “quite a big game-changer” in possession and especially in his positioning.
Van Dijk also pointed to the role Jones has handled this season as an emergency right-back. “It’s nice to be in your original position, but he is so comfortable on the ball, he understands what is asked from that position.”
That versatility has kept Jones in the picture while his contract situation tightens. With July approaching and only a year left on those deals for eight Liverpool players, his next move will shape both his role and Liverpool’s planning.
