Kerkez says Szoboszlai trio will miss Salah after Liverpool exit

Milos Kerkez said szoboszlai is part of the close Liverpool trio that will be broken up when Mohamed Salah leaves at the end of the season. The defender said he will miss Salah a lot and credited him for helping him settle after arriving from Bournemouth last summer.

Kerkez and Salah at Liverpool

"We are close – me, him [Salah] and Dom [Szoboszlai]" Kerkez said, putting words to a relationship that has become one of the more personal parts of Liverpool’s dressing room. He added: "He accepted me really well, like everyone did, but he took me more under the wing and helped me out in many ways. Also hanging out and doing stuff."

That bond is why the departure lands hard for him. "I’m really thankful to him for that. It’s going to be one month more and for sure I’m going to miss him a lot," Kerkez said. Salah is expected to depart Liverpool at the end of the season.

Kerkez’s first Liverpool season

Kerkez also described his first year on Merseyside as a growing season. "I think in general, for me it has been a growing season, learning a lot of new things and adapting" he said, and he pointed to the first two or three months as the toughest part because of the playing style, the new demands and the physical load.

Since moving from Bournemouth last summer, he has at times dropped out of the team for Andy Robertson. That rotation has shaped a transitional season, but Kerkez said the adjustment is paying off now.

Robertson and the rotation

"But after that, when you take some time and then adapt, it gets better and better always," he said. "I’m happy now that I’ve found my place more and I can play more consistently – and consistent performances also."

The split with Salah will arrive after a season in which Kerkez had to learn Liverpool’s style while fighting for minutes. He now leaves this stage of the campaign with a clearer role and a clearer loss hanging over it: one month left with Salah, and a trio with Szoboszlai that will not stay intact for long.
