Frimpong: Slot Says Liverpool Must Replace Salah This Summer

frimpong sits inside a Liverpool summer that already looks costly. Arne Slot said the club must find a way to replace Mohamed Salah, and he tied the size of the transfer window to what happens with the current squad.

“I wouldn’t use that word, ‘big summer ahead’, because we don’t know exactly what’s going to happen at this moment of time,” Slot said ahead of Liverpool’s match against Manchester United. That caution matters because he also said Liverpool are in a transition phase and are trying to rebuild a team that can go on another cycle.

Slot on Salah and Robertson

Slot made the outgoing list explicit. “We know that Robbo and Mo are going to leave. But we also know Kostas Tsimikas might come back. So, yeah, we need a way to replace a player like Mo, which is never going to be easy,” he said.

He doubled down on that point by saying, “As we all know, two icons of this club, Robbo and Mo, are going to leave as well.” For Liverpool, that turns the summer into more than a routine refresh. It puts two established names in the same conversation as the club’s next recruitment decisions.

Transfers and Liverpool costs

Slot said Liverpool will try to replace anyone who leaves, but he also warned about the price of doing it at the club’s level. “As we showed last season, which is quite normal by the way in football, that if players leave, you try to replace them. And if you have to replace them, that usually at our level comes with a lot of cost, a lot of money,” he said.

He added a hard limit on mistakes: “So, we are still in a transition phase. A team that has been so special for three, four years with Jurgen, four or five years ago and the years before that, that time is coming to an end. And we are trying to rebuild a team that can go on another cycle as these players have done for four or five years.”

The pressure on the window is sharpened by the standard Slot set for it. “So therefore we have to constantly make the right decisions because we cannot afford to have three or four failures in the signings we make because that’s not the club who we are. Every signing, everything we do needs to be right,” he said.

That leaves Liverpool with a clear brief: replace Salah, manage the exit of Robertson, and avoid misfires in a market where every addition is expected to fit a team entering its next cycle. Kostas Tsimikas might come back into the picture, but the summer work still centers on whether the club can keep the transition moving without losing too much quality at once.
