Redondo Beach Pier evacuated after police activity closes Catalina
Police activity cleared the redondo beach pier after officers told people in the area to leave safely. The Redondo Beach police department said Catalina between Torrance and Beryl are closed, and people were told to stay away from the pier area until further notice.
Several locals reported a possible shooting situation at the pier. Witnesses said there was a heavy police presence near the beach, and officers made announcements for the public to leave immediately.
Redondo Beach police alert
In an alert, the department said, "Police Activity on the Pier. Anyone in the area of the pier is requested to evacuate safely. Catalina between Torrance and Beryl are closed. Please stay away from the pier area until further notice," That message sent people away from a waterfront area that sits in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles County, in Southern California.
One person wrote on X that the Redondo Beach Pier was being evacuated and that SWAT may have been there. Another person tweeted, "Evacuation Order has been issued for the Redondo Beach Pier due to police activity; possible barricade suspect. Air ship overhead advising everyone to bail out. NFD due to encryption of RBPD dispatch channel,"
South Bay pier closure
The pier sits along the Pacific Ocean in the South Bay region, roughly 20–25 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles. For people trying to reach the area, the practical change was immediate: Catalina was closed between Torrance and Beryl, and the department told the public to stay away until further notice.
Details about the incident had not yet been released, leaving the evacuation and closures as the clearest facts for anyone near the pier. Anyone heading toward the waterfront had to turn back at the closed stretch and avoid the pier area while police activity continued.
