Tyler Heineman assigned as Lukas Reichel heads to AHL Providence

Lukas Reichel was assigned to AHL Providence on Sunday, sending him to the minor-league level for the Calder Cup Playoffs after Boston’s first-round exit. The move comes after a 2025-26 NHL regular season in which he played 14 games for Boston.

Reichel and Providence

Reichel finished that NHL stretch with one assist, nine shots on net, eight blocked shots and six hits. Those numbers tell the story of a short run at the top level before he shifts to Providence for the playoff push.

The assignment gives him a new assignment at the exact point Boston’s postseason ended. Buffalo eliminated Boston in the first round, closing the door on the NHL side of the bracket and moving Reichel into a different race at the minor-league level.

Boston's first-round exit

Boston’s elimination is the line that changes the context here. Once the first-round loss to Buffalo was in place, Reichel’s path moved away from the NHL roster and toward Providence’s playoff group.

He now stays active in the Calder Cup Playoffs instead of ending his season with Boston. For a player who logged 14 games in the regular season, the next stretch is about carrying those minutes, stops and shot attempts into a deeper run at a lower level.

The move also narrows the picture for Reichel: one assist over 14 games was the NHL output, and the rest of his season now continues with Providence. Buffalo’s win over Boston set that shift in motion, and Sunday’s assignment made it official on the roster side.
